We’re right at the beginning of our spring break and this post is brought to you from Orlando, FL. Notice I didn’t say sunny; it’s only 63 here during the day but I digress. My kids are having a great time and so is our little friend who hangs with us on a fairly regular basis. This time her mom is even along for the fun. The kids have been so excited to do everything like see Mickey, get slimed and just hang out that getting them ready every morning has kind of been a struggle. They want to just rush out the door.
In the past, I’ve had to do some crazy and expensive things like bribery (“you can have a new toy if you brush”), physically demanding like swaddling in a towel (have you ever tried to swaddle a 2 year old?) and plain old mean (“you will not have any bubbles today”) to get my kids to brush well. Notice, I said well. My kids love to brush; they just don’t always do a great job of it.
I was able to get a glimpse into my life this morning when Mya was brushing her teeth and her mom sent her back to the bathroom because she knew she hadn’t spent the proper two minutes brushing. I had to stop and introduce the new Disney Magic Timer™ app by Oral-B to Mya and her mom. (I swear this was totally true and not planned.)
The app works by creating a profile and then scanning any Crest or Oral-B Pro-Health Stages product. The scanning doesn’t have to be an exact place, it’s really simple to do and even the kindergartner can do it by himself. The app then brings up a screen covered with bubbles and a timer to count down from two minutes. At the end of the two minutes, the app then reveals the full picture. The picture is actually a sticker and it’s then placed into a sticker book for the kids to collect.
Mya loved it! She and my boys all gathered around the sink to brush together. I created a profile for her in a few seconds and she was able to walk through the process on her own. Her mother liked it too because it made things easier and helped reinforce good brushing habits. One thing I really like that the picture is revealed in sections so each new section reminds them to switch the area of the mouth they’re brushing. My boys have loved using it over the last few weeks. Even at the end of a long day at Disney World, they came to get my phone and to use the app. One drawback is you can only access one profile at a time so you might have to brush your teeth for five minutes if you’re doing a family session.
The app is downloadable from the Apple Store and Google Play. Be sure to check it out and let me know what you think about it. I seriously think you’ll love it too.
