If you ever took a road trip as a child, you know that family friendly road trip music was not a thing parents thought about or could even really help with. Your car might have had a CD player but did your family really own 24 hours of CDs that everyone wanted to listen to? When we reached the outskirts of big cities my family turned on the radio and would try to find a local station. Some of my favorite memories are based in those road trip sing along in the car when we’d break into a song because there was no other option!
I started thinking about this big difference on our last road trip and how easy it is now to have family friendly road trip music. To help capture that sense of family togetherness, I created our own playlist based upon the music we actually like together and the things we want my boys to listen in the future. It includes a mix of the current songs they love but ones I think they’d love if they only had a chance!
My first time to test it out came when we were given the opportunity to drive the 2017 Ford Escape Titanium edition. The sound system in this car was amazing. First, it’s a 9 speaker Sony audio system with AM/FM CD player/MP3. If you didn’t catch it, it’s a Sony system and the sound is amazing. In practical use with my family, if I choose to transfer the sound to the back for my kids, I didn’t have to worry about turning the volume up to the highest levels so they could hear.
Another feature I loved was the number of options for inputting music. There is a standard AM/FM radio, CD player, an input for connecting your MP3 player in addition to Sirius XM and the ability to stream from your own cell phone. I was thrilled on how easy it was to pair my phone with the Bluetooth and play my own family friendly road trip music playlist from my cell phone. We aren’t audiophiles but honestly these features in the Ford Escape only helped move it up my list on a car that we should consider in the future.
Coming up with the final list for a family friendly road trip music actually wasn’t easy but here are our first set of favorites. Let me know what I missed and what’s on your family’s list. This is going to be an ongoing project for me.
The #LoveLearnTravel Family Friendly Road Trip Music
Parents Just Don’t Understand by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – My boys have such a sense of humor that this song with its catchy beat and funny lyrics is such to be a staple for a long time to come.
Jump by Kris Kross – What little kids aren’t going to like a song about jumping?
This is How We Do It by Montell Jordan – They’ll love this song because of the beat and easy hook.
On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons – We love this one a normal basis. How cool is it to hear as you’re speaking down the road? With the open road ahead of you, this is one that inspires you to think big.
Car Wash by Rose Royce – They know the version with Christina Aguilera from the Shark Tale movie so I want them to hear this original version! It’s full of nostalgia for my husband and I.
Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake – This is just fun and who doesn’t like fun?
