While I love to get on a plane and jet to the next place, a non-negotiable aspect for my family is having a safe and sound car that we can take anywhere. At least a few times a year, we’re taking a road trip of at least 600 miles. Last year, we did two big ones. The first was with my father through the South and the second was to Washington, DC. Not to mention, the local travels around the Atlanta area that we’re doing. We need to be ready for any adventure as we #LoveLearnTravel!
Why I Always Need to Be Ready to Go
The first time I had this feeling of making sure that my car must be safe enough to go anywhere I need was on September 11, 2001. At the time, I lived in Washington, DC and was in grad school. I was single, had just moved from New York and hadn’t made those super close friends year who I could wait out the uncertainly of life. I could have driven to New York but that was a little scary to go into the area. My sister lived 12 hours away in Atlanta and I really wanted to drive down. But I was a little concerned about if my car was actually going to safely make it there/back. I vowed that I wouldn’t be in the same situation ever again.
It was put to the test during the Atlanta Ice Storm of 2014. During the unexpected snow here in Atlanta, I had both kids in the car as a struggled to navigate our normal 20 minute drive home from school. Lots of cars were stuck on inclines. In fact as we drove up a hill, there were several people who dissuaded me from going up. BUT luckily I was confident in my car and brakes so that I made it up the hills with no problems!
Using Cars.com to Keep My Family Safe
Even though my life now is very different but I feel like I’ll always be concerned about making sure that my family has a safe car. I want to be sure that whenever we hit the road, we are comfortable able to go without a problem. Because we often travel with just the kids and myself, I’ve began making sure that I’m just as versed in taking care of my car. I need to know that our car seats are in right, our tires are safe to drive and there are no funny sounds/smells coming out.
That’s totally where I’m using Cars.com to get advice. I love that they have expert video reviews and advice for things like how to drive safely during floods and making sure that car seats are put in correctly.
