I recently had the opportunity to participate in the Motivated Mom Tour here in Atlanta as a Motivated Mom Ambassador. It was such a wonderful experience that I truly wish that all the women I knew were able to participate. It was right after we came back from a family vacation and the perfect way for me to kick off this new school year. I was even able to catch up with several of my Mocha Moms there!
I spent yesterday morning with an amazing group of women brought together by The MotivatedMom, @latoyiadennis. It was the perfect way to end a week of family vacation because it just reinforced my why in life. All of the just reinforced the HOW to keep working on Being a Great Woman, an Extraordinary Mom and raise Amazing children. She’s headed to #Miami, #Newark and #LA, be sure to get a seat if she’s coming your way.. I promise it’ll be inspiring on another level! #MotivatedMom #HiltonCelebrates #PruEmpowersMoms #BETHer #CokeGivesBackNA #LoveLearnTravel #Inspiration #MomLife #BoyMom #AtlantaBlogger
First off, LaToyia Dennis, the founder of MotivatedMom.org, gave us the intentions for the day but they’re also the actual tour mission. I already knew that it was going to be an amazing day because LaToyia and I share a friend in common, Elayna Fernandez, the Positive Mom.
The Motivated Moms Tour- Super Mom Edition is designed to equip moms to be “Great Women and Extraordinary Moms” by offering life-changing content to help activate their dreams. The entrepreneur mom, working mom, stay-at-home mom, or aspiring mom representing different socioeconomic backgrounds, education, and cultures will gather together to participate in an empowering #MotivatedMom Empowerment Panel discussion over lunch.
It’s a lot in there but seriously, it speaks tons to me that she recognizes that everything has to start with being a Great Woman. I am always working on being the best Kendra I can be. It’s just so easy to get busy with life that you’re not making progress towards your goals. rather just keeping up with what you HAVE to do. I really hadn’t planned on attending because I was just coming back from a vacation. HOWEVER, I certainly needed to be in the room.
Sponsors and Speakers on the Motivation Mom Tour
One reason that I was empowered at the Motivation Mom Tour is because our vacation was magical and I want to live like that more than not. We loved the suite we stayed in and the time that we had as a family BUT that’s not real life. Unfortunately, we had to go back to our house and my husband had to go back to work on Monday morning. We spend a lot of the long drive back to Atlanta thinking about how we can build wealth and businesses that will allow us to live the vacation lifestyle more, it not all the time.
The first speaker, Eyvon Austin, represented the 5by20 Global Initiative Speaker powered by Coca-Cola. As the Global Supplier Diversity Director, I really didn’t think that I’d have anything to offer to a large business like Coca-Cola. I was wrong! Her short presentation really made me think about what I can offer. It may not be large services like a bottling plant or retail space but there is so much that Coca-Cola sources and I can potentially partner with their company on. It inspired me and made me think harder about what I was going to do.
The second speaker, Michele Thornton Ghee of BetHer (coming soon!) and the author of Stratechic made me think critically and honestly about what the next steps would be to get to that plan. She even had us completing homework (!) during the session to ensure that we did put some realistic efforts into the goal we claim to want. I loved, loved, loved Michele’s honesty about her journey and the why behind her how to get there. She will be at the upcoming conferences in Miami, Newark and Los Angeles so I highly recommend that you make plans to attend.
The Panel of Motivated Moms
The final event was a panel discussion where we could have real talk about the work/life balance, money and all the other issues that face women. The panelists were:
- Nicci Gilbert-Daniels | Entertainer | Producer | Founder of NoEgo
- Tiffany “the Budgetnista” Aliche | Finance Educator| Founder of Live Richer
- Valerie Meraz | SVP at Turner Broadcasting
- Dania Santana | Diversity & Inclusion Expert | Mom Blogger
It was a great discussion and I really learned so much from The Budgetnista (I really love her name!) and the whole panel on how to manage it all. The conversation is really one that you had to be there for. I know that sounds like I’m just taking an easy way out but really the questions and answers needed the full context.
One thing I will share is that I need to make sure to take care of my financial needs. As a small business owner, I have to admit I’ve not always been diligent about saving for retirement. I will be changing that this year. We talked about the future retirement selfie and how that fits into owning a business. All of these are topics to discuss.
How I Won Big at the Motivated Mom Conference
I almost forgot to share how I actually won big at the conference in an area that’s totally me! The conference was held at the Doubletree hotel because Hilton is a sponsor. Hilton is my preferred brand of property. I’m not going to be dishonest and say that I ONLY stay at Hilton’s but they really are the first place I look for personal travel. Embassy Suites are my first choice because they offer plenty of space to spread out.
Anyhow, I won a free stay at Hilton from the sponsor by naming 7 of their brands. I actually did blank on a few but how many of them can you name? My family has a few more trips planned and I already have the perfect place to use it.
