My trip to Beaches Moms was definitely an inter-generational travel experience. My mid-sixties mother traveled along with myself and my sons who are two and six years old. I know what my favorites about the trip were but I posed the question to everyone, “What did you like best about Beaches?”
My mother said that she liked the service. In the restaurants and just walking around, she felt the staff were genuinely helpful (a big deal since she had my two year old most of the time alone) and provided a superior level of service. It reminded her of a more formal experience when travel was special and customer service was the rule and not exception. I would totally agree with this assessment. As an example, you could ask for directions and a staff member would walk you there to make sure you were in the right place.
I asked my six year old and I expected him to say the Kids Camp (which he loved – see my recap below) or the beach. He surprised me and said he loved our room. He liked the “secret bed” (the trundle on the living room daybed) and the Xbox because it had “Marvel Lego” on it. The room comes with an Xbox gaming system preloaded with tons of games at different rating levels perfect for all the gamers in your family.
My two year old isn’t the most articulate in letting me know his wishes so I didn’t ask him BUT he told me anyhow. One night as we were preparing for bed two weeks after our trip, he told me “I want to go on a boat.” I asked where he was going in the boat and told me “I want to go to Turks and Caicos.” This is not a joke. I was amazed that he remembered seeing the boats in Turks and Caicos, so I guess that is what stood out to him most about our trip.
As for me, I loved more than a few things but the things I’ve been raving about were our room, the Kids Camp and the amenities kit.
Our home at Beaches was a Key West Two Story Two Bedroom Concierge Suite. The main floor had a master bedroom with a king size bed, walk-in closet and bathroom (washer/dryer in the unit!), full kitchen (with a stocked refrigerator!) and open living area with a table that seated four and daybed that turned into a trundle bed. Upstairs, there was another bedroom with king size bed and bathroom with walk-in shower. Both the bedroom and living area had TVs with the full range of networks from Miami and several other satellite channels. There was also tons outdoor space with porches off the bedrooms and main living area.
In addition to having enough space for everyone to be comfortable, the layout was perfect for traveling with grandparents or anyone else not used to hearing little people. The doors were sturdy enough that once she went upstairs my mother didn’t hear us. The trundle offered a neat surprise for my sons and distracted from the fact that they weren’t at home in their own beds. It added to the vacation fun of it all. My favorite places were the porches. They offered a relaxing way to experience the evening breezes and sunrises while still being private. I could open the doors or lounge outside without having to even put on shoes.
About the Kids Camp, I honestly don’t trust many people with my sons. They both have food allergies, the oldest has a speech delay and I’m just a protective mother. It felt so good that I was able to trust the Kids Camp at Beaches. I trusted them not only because all the camp staffers are educated and certified members of the International Nanny Association but most importantly, because the staffers knew my child and made him feel comfortable. My son is not a strong swimmer and has a healthy fear of water but one day when I had extra time, I came to see him in the Kids Camp. My son was getting into the pool and going down the waterslide with one of the counselors, something he doesn’t even do with me! I was incredibly proud of him for doing this. It also made him more confident, a priceless takeaway from a beach vacation.
Finally, one of the secret things I loved was the amenity kit featuring the Red Lane Spa collection. Beaches is so about the service that they don’t go cheap with the bath gels and shampoos they provide. The products are sulfate, paraben, phthalates and synthetic chemical free and “blended with organic oils, antioxidants and fruit extracts to boost skin’s natural healing process and help to restore your skin’s moisture balance”. After a day in the sand, these products were the perfect thing to sooth my skin and I loved them so much, I ordered a few products for use at home to extend the luxury I was feeling at Beaches! That’s yet another example of the Beaches quality and commitment to being the best.
I’ve said it repeatedly but our BeachesMoms experience was once in a lifetime. Looking at the pictures only reminds me of how wonderful it was. I have a few more posts that I plan to share in the next week. Be sure to come back and learn more about how wonderful it truly was!
